If you’ve ever wondered how hypnotherapy works, this episode of NextFem is for you. My guest today is Rene Brent, best-selling author and a Certified Clinical, Transpersonal, and Interpersonal Hypnotherapist. She has spent over 500 hours in training – learning the techniques of hypnosis. Through her work as a hypnotherapist, Rene has helped many people achieve peace of mind, gain confidence, change unwanted behaviors or habits, gain healthy body image, learn to forgive, and so much more. If you want to understand the basics of how hypnotherapy works and the type of changes it can help you make in your life, listen to this episode. Rene explains it in down-to-earth, practical ways anyone can understand.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
Rene says that the most important thing for first-time hypnotherapy participants is to feel at ease during their session. To that end, she spends time with each person explaining the connection between the conscious and subconscious mind and how the later is what often guides our behavior. Hypnosis is used as a tool to bypass conscious thought and reach the subconscious mind so that hidden beliefs can be identified and lasting changes can be made. In this conversation, Rene’s explanations removed the stigma and mystery surrounding how hypnotherapy works and showed me how it can be used to increase joy and curb detrimental behaviors.
Did you know that you experience a state of hypnosis every day?
It’s hard to believe at first, but once Rene provided the following explanation, I understood it right away. Hypnosis is the practice of initiating certain brain wave states that we experience naturally while we’re doing everyday things like reading a novel, experiencing a daydream, or even sleeping. It’s in that state that we are most at rest and at ease with the world around us. A hypnotherapist helps their patient to intentionally move into those peaceful states of mind in order to uncover the unseen beliefs and patterns that are manifesting negatively in daily life. Once that’s done, changes can be made and a newfound freedom and peace is often the outcome. You can learn a lot more about hypnotherapy and the role it could play in helping you improve the quality and joy of your life, from what Rene shares on this episode.
Does hypnosis really work?
Rene says that hypnotherapy is almost always helpful, though it’s never a magic pill that removes every problem or difficulty you might be experiencing. The science behind hypnotherapy shows that it’s generally effective for most people by helping them discover how they feel and what they believe about themselves, the world, and other people. That’s one of the key things that enables real change to happen. Rene explains it so much better than I am, so be sure you listen in order to understand how hypnotherapy works and how it might be of benefit to you.
Are you ready to silence the inner critic who holds you back?
All of us struggle with our “inner critic,” the voice in our heads that not only criticizes the things we think, feel, and do, but also tries to convince us that we are less than we are. Rene says that we need to understand what’s going on in our subconscious mind in order to get out of our own way and shift our behavior to more positive things. Hypnotherapy is the tool she uses to get past the barriers erected in the conscious mind so that the patient can get to the place where true change is possible. When we come to understand the false core beliefs that are being manifest by our inner critic, then we can change inside and gain the confidence and peace of mind we intuitively know we should have.
