What Happens When You’re Big

In college I taught wilderness survival in Montana.

Now and then we’d return to camp and find a cow peacefully grazing our foodstuffs.

When it noticed us it would freeze, mid-chew, as though we might somehow miss her hulking mass amidst the tents.

When you’re big, you get noticed.

And it’s not always easy.

Starting my own brand, writing my first posts and putting my personal stamp on this business has been confronting for me. This week I even got my first hater mail. Baseless as it was, it stung.

If done right, leadership is polarizing. And there’s nowhere to hide.

Sometimes when you’re big you’ll feel like a cow that’s been caught-red handed. You’ll wish for a moment you’d been born a chipmunk instead.

But the truth is that if you want to attract your soul mates, your true believers, your once-in-a-lifetimes-can’t-believe-how-lucky-I-ams, you’ve got to be noticed.

You’ve got to be big.
